7th - 10th May 2025
Dr. Rosslyn Ngugi
Consultant Physician, Endocrinologist.
President, KDSG
It is with great honor and profound gratitude that I stand before you today to welcome you to the 10th KDSG Annual Scientific Conference . This year’s conference is particularly special as we reflect on a decade of advancements, challenges, and milestones in diabetes care. The theme, “A Decade in Diabetes Care” is a call to celebrate our achievements while recommitting ourselves to the work that lies ahead.
Over the past ten years, we have witnessed remarkable progress in the field of diabetes care. From groundbreaking research and innovative technologies to improved treatment protocols and patient education, the strides we have made have transformed the lives of countless individuals living with diabetes.
We have seen the advent of continuous glucose monitoring systems, the development of more effective insulin therapies, and the integration of digital health tools that empower patients to take control of their health. These advancements are a testament to the dedication and collaboration of healthcare professionals, researchers, policymakers, and advocates like you.
However, as we celebrate these achievements, we must also acknowledge the challenges that persist. Diabetes remains a global health crisis, with prevalence rates continuing to rise. In our own community, the burden of diabetes is felt deeply, particularly among vulnerable populations. Access to care, affordability of treatments, and the need for greater awareness and prevention efforts remain critical issues that demand our attention.
This conference is an opportunity to reflect on where we have been, where we are, and where we need to go. Over the next few days, we will engage in thought-provoking discussions, share cutting-edge research, and explore innovative strategies to address the challenges of diabetes care. We will hear from experts in the field, learn from each other’s experiences, and collaborate on solutions that will shape the future of diabetes management.
Let us also take this moment to honor the resilience and courage of individuals living with diabetes. Their stories inspire us to push boundaries, challenge the status quo, and strive for a world where diabetes is no longer a life-altering diagnosis but a manageable condition.
As we embark on this conference, I urge each of you to actively participate, share your insights, and forge new connections. Together, we can build on the progress of the past decade and pave the way for a brighter, healthier future for all those affected by diabetes.
Thank you for your unwavering commitment to this cause. Let us make this conference a resounding success and a catalyst for change in the years to come.
I want to thank Prof Nancy Kunyiha for her continued guidance and support as well as, Dr. Rilwan Adan (Vice President), Dr. Jackline Odhiambo (Secretary), Dr. Erick Njenga (Treasurer) and the entire executive committee for setting up this well organised conference and to all our estemeed partners for their contributions.
Welcome, and may our collective efforts continue to make a difference in the fight against diabetes.
Warm regards,
Dr. Rosslyn Ngugi
